Day 1 - First Day Back In Chuchurras
We arrived in Chuchurras this morning and were welcomed as friends by community leaders. We have the same team as the 2024 trip, so everyone is a familiar face this time! Together, we reviewed the goals for our time together: determine the final pipe alignments and tap stand locations, conduct operations & maintenance training with leaders, investigate chlorination, test water quality, and review anything else they have concerns about. A few new tap location requests were made to get water closer to additional home clusters, and we can accommodate that request.
The team of engineers and community leaders got straight to work, discussing the alignment for the additional pipe. There will be a challenging water crossing, but we are sure with some creative construction methods we can get the pipe across.
We inventoried all of the new materials (pipes, fittings, etc.) and checked on the well house. The tanks need some minor maintenance so we looked into that and made a plan for cleaning the tanks and fixing the floats.
It’s hot and sunny here, as always, but the team enjoys buying Peruvian Gatorade (Sporade) and chupetes (homemade icees made with local fruit) to stay cool.
